Sunshine

Monday, 1 March 2010 at 23:47

The Sheffield end of True Mess Head has been quiet. That's no lie. However things are changing, turning a new leaf as some might say. More music and nights will be swinging this way in due course. Today was the first day of sunshine of 2010 (well in Sheffield) and it brings a heap load of tunes:

Never Be Your Woman (Herve refix) - Wiley (removed by request) (Herve adds his golden touch to an already dope summer song)

Rising Sun (The Boog-a-loo Crew remix) - DRT (removed by request) (Beautiful dub step. What more can I say)

Donut (Boy 8 Bit remix) - M.A.N.D.Y & Booka Shade (removed by request) (Anything Boy 8 Bit remixes is always highly recommended. Great build up & just wait for the drop!)

Technical Failure - Monoline (removed by request) (Driving techno sound all the way. True Mess Head recommends)

Riva Starr

Monday, 4 January 2010 at 14:49

Riva Starr is set to start 2010 with a bang! He is about to drop his album If Life Gives You Lemons, Make Lemonade on Jesse Rose's Made to Play label. This offering is sure to be a hit with its infectious amount of bleeps and wobbles layered to some fine tech house. It will include the single I was Drunk featuring Noze. What a hypnotic tune!

Riva Starr will be landing in the city of Steel on the 9th January @ PLUG. It's his album launch so expect to hear fresh exclusives from it in his set. It's only a fiver on the door so do it!

Here's the link to the event:

F**k me its Party time.

Tuesday, 1 December 2009 at 12:38
This week is a stonker for music in Sheffield. If you got the stamina, I got something for you pretty much every night this week. Hit it hard then recover. Its the only way.

Tuesday:

Tuesday Club featuring Major Lazer Soundsystem & Mumdance

Major Lazer are Diplo & Switch. Two huge DJ/Producers joining forces to create a super duper group. Their track 'Pon De Floor' was probably one of the most remixed tunes this year, being dropped in sets at all the festivals this year! Tuesday Club has bagged themselves a massive act who are only touring at a handful of places in the U.K. Throw in super hot Mumdance and its an orgy! For £6.50 advance its a bargain. True Mess Head recommends!

Thursday:

Vibes Alive @ Prive featuring Goldie Locks & Tomb Crew

The baddest crew in the World arrive in the city of Steel to party like only they know how. Vibes Alive has given Thursday's a fresh new lick of paint and week in week out gets banging artists down into the Cellar to drop dirty tunes. Whether there's six of them or 2 of them they pump out the garage, jungle, bassline, electro.. you name it they got it. So get your ass down to Cellar 35 for Prive to join in the party! You've had a day off recovering so no excuses.

Friday:

Bigger Than Barry - Joker, L-Vis 1990 @ DQ

Joker is fast becoming the prince of dubstep his stock is on the rise! His productions are slick and varied, remixing the likes of Simian Mobile Disco & Basement Jaxx. He rips it up in Bristol and now he's coming to Sheff to do the same. For £5 and cheap as chips drinks in DQ how can you say no. True Mess Head recommends!

Saturday:

Shuffle presents Sebastien Leger & Jesper Dahlback @ Plug

Shuffle presents a stellar billing of tech-house & techno. Two heavyweights in the game come to rock Plug to its core. Its Leger's 3rd time here and Dahlback is making his debut. John his younger cousin was her in May and smashed so I hope it runs in the family. £5 again and with shot hour running from 1-2 down those sambucas fast and start dancing.

Enjoy it & party hard :D

This will be big:

Hostage @ Krooked!

Friday, 27 November 2009 at 14:38
So ladies and gentlemen on Friday 27th November (today!) Krooked presents Hostage!!!! Bada man. He is going to ruin DQ so i recommend this!

This is how he describes his music:

If it was a recipe for a nice dancefloor-cake you'd do the following:
Ingredients:
500g of Electro and mixed with 250g of House music
125g of Techno
A dash of Old-Skool Hardcore
A tablespoon of Fidget (If you don't have any fidget a wee bit of Wonk will do)
A knob of Bassline
Blend them all together into a nice wobbly dough.
Bake at Gasmark 128bpm for 1 hour and 20 Minutes.

Sprinkle with UK Rave Stabs circa 1992

Sounds like a nice cake to me! Little bonus material for ya:

Long overdue.

Its time that I clocked in and made my due contribution to True Mess Head. It's been a while so I'm here to ramble.

Sheffield has been hitting it hard this year in the music scene. Too many big names have graced the decks of various clubs around the city of Steel.

From now on my mission is to keep you updated on what is upcoming and fresh new beats from around the world.

So.. tonight!!!

Gracing the decks at Tuesday Club we have Foreign Beggars (United Colours of Beggatron Album Launch) & Alix Perez (1984 Album Launch). Enough has already been said about Perez so I'll stick it to the Beggars

Foreign Beggars are one of the best hip hop collectives that this country has to offer. Their live shows are always a talking point full of energy and heavy drops. Foreign Beggars are a 5 man crew comprising of rappers Orifice Vulgatron and Metropolis, DJ NoNames, Beat Bozer Shlomo and Producer Dag Nabbit. In their latest offering they have collaborated with a variety of artists most notably Noisia. He has produced a vast quantity of 'United Colours of Beggatron'.

All booming tunes. In contact you can sure tell the Noisia influence just as you can tell the Zinc influence in Move. Hit that Gash, straight up noise!

More to come in the next couple of days so stay posted!

Who Am I?

Wednesday, 9 September 2009 at 21:02
I'm AK. I'm the guy who on this blog is representing the Sheffield scene. Give me a good beat and a good hook and you got me dancing . I don't have a narrow view of music so like to embrace it all.

I'm gonna be bringing to you the best nights in Sheffield with the best DJs and we do get them.

There's so much to talk about so I'll shorten it down and give a quick lowdown.

DQ - This is the heart of the underground music scene in Sheffield. Every night there's something happening here. It's regularly packed and for once the drinks aren't ridiculously priced. If your into your beats then they get a whole host of djs coming through here every 1month. Sinden, Drop the Lime, Tomb Crew, Mustard Pimps, Boy 8 Bit & Duke Dumont to name a few, http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=2252286976&ref=ts - That's the Facebook group for DQ. I'll post more on the individual nights, closer to the date.

Plug - Plug nightclub is the home to Shuffle, Detonate, Fresh till Deaf and more. It is the BIG nightclub in Sheffield. With a capacity over 2000 you can see why it attracts names such as Deadmau5, Kissy Sell Out, James Zabiela, Dubfire and many more. Shuffle on a Saturday is renowned for its stella big name pulling power. Detonate is a monthly night that showcases the best D&B this country has to offer. Danny Byrd ripped the place apart the last time I went down. My favourite is Fresh Till Deaf. A new addition to Plug's line up brings in the underground electro and fidget djs that I crave. Foamo, Hijack & Stupid Fresh. It also helps to know that Plug has a new banging soundsystem installed over summer. Hello!

TTC - The Tuesday Club is the best midweek D&B night in the country. That is definitely a good start. It simply is definitely the heart of D&B, Dubstep & Hip-hop in Sheffield. They book everyone and anyone. The list is too long to mention here but its good, real good. They also manage to chuck in a couple of Valve Soundsystem's every year, which rock the Octagon centre to its core. I would highly recommend checking this out. Cheap entry and cheap drinks, with wicked dj's. Not more you can really ask for.

So that's me for the moment. I will be updating this blog every week with new tracks, new nights and music news.

I am the True Mess Head. AK
